What a Shopify migration costs, by store size
Shopify migrations start at $1,450 with us. What drives the price, what Shopify charges (nothing), what to budget for apps and design, and how to keep it down.

A migration to Shopify starts at $1,450 with Shyft Stack and typically takes two to four weeks. The final quote depends on how many products, pages and customers move, and on whether the design is rebuilt or redesigned. Shopify itself charges nothing for migrating; you pay for your plan and apps as any store does.
Those are our prices, in US dollars, as published on our migration package. Other agencies price differently, but the cost drivers below are the same for everyone, so you can use them to judge any quote.
What you are paying for
A migration is four jobs, and each one scales with the size of the store:
- Data: products, variants, images, inventory, customers and order history moved across and checked. More products and more variants mean more checking.
- Search rankings: every important address on the old store redirected to its new address on Shopify, so Google and your old links find the new pages. More pages mean a longer list to map.
- Design: your current look rebuilt on a Shopify theme, or a new design. A rebuild is faster; a redesign is a design project on top of the move.
- Launch: test orders with every payment and shipping option, a cutover at a quiet time, and watching the first orders after launch.
Everything else, such as payment setup, shipping zones and taxes, is configuration that every store needs once. It does not change much with size.
Small stores: under about 100 products
A store with a few dozen products, a handful of pages and a modest order history is the simplest move, and it sits at the start of our pricing. The data fits standard import tools, the redirect list is short, and the design is often a rebuild of what already works. Most of these stores come from Wix, Squarespace or a small WooCommerce setup. Bxquisit and Legacy Tattoo Collective moved from Wix this way; SD Urban Farm came from GoDaddy.
Medium stores: hundreds of products
Once a store has hundreds of products, the work moves from importing to checking. Product data from an old platform is rarely clean: inconsistent variants, missing images, duplicate SKUs and categories that do not map to Shopify collections one for one. Fixing that is where the hours go, and it is why we quote after seeing the store rather than from a product count alone. The redirect list is also longer, and old category and filter pages need thought, because Shopify handles them differently.
If you want a sense of scale, our add-on pricing for new stores is $75 per 25 extra products and $150 per extra page design. Migrations are quoted as a whole, but those figures show how the work grows.
Large stores: thousands of products, years of orders
Large catalogs, long order histories and wholesale pricing push a migration into custom territory: scripted imports, data cleaned before it moves, and a staged launch. Stores at this size are usually on Magento, BigCommerce or a custom platform, and often moving to Shopify Plus. We scope those after a discovery call and quote a fixed price per phase; see Shopify Plus.
Order history is worth a decision at any size. You need it for customer service and reporting, but you rarely need all of it in Shopify. Many brands move the last two years and keep an export of the rest.
What Shopify charges
Nothing for the migration itself. Shopify's own migration guide lists five ways to bring data across, from manual entry and CSV files to migration apps, a Shopify Partner or custom development, and it recommends importing products first, then customers, then orders so the records connect. What you pay Shopify is the monthly plan and payment processing, the same as any store. Our guide to what a Shopify store costs covers those running costs.
Costs people forget
- Apps. Most old stores rely on a dozen plugins. Some have Shopify equivalents with subscriptions, some are built into Shopify, and some are no longer needed. Review each one before launch; the list often shrinks.
- Customer passwords. They cannot be moved from any platform. Customers get an invitation to activate their account, and that email is worth writing well.
- Reviews and gift cards. They move, but not through the standard product import. Plan for them separately.
- Your time. Content decisions, feedback and approvals are usually what sets the timeline, not the build.
How to keep the cost down
- Clean the catalog before the move: retire products you no longer sell, merge duplicates, fix images.
- Decide early whether this is a rebuild or a redesign. Mixing the two mid-project is the most common cause of a bigger invoice.
- Export your top URLs from Search Console now; the redirect list is faster to build from real traffic data.
- Move two years of orders, not ten.
For a fixed quote on your store, book a call; we review the store first and put the price in writing. If you are on WooCommerce, our WooCommerce to Shopify checklist covers the move step by step, and ESLLA shows what a finished one looks like.
